"Hymns For The Insane"

The
Artists:
This disk is the product of two Cleveland-area musicians, drummer
John
Jones and guitarist Mike Haley. They formerly played together
in the Uninspired 5, a
Cleveland pop-rock band, and collaborated on 1999's "Wide
Awake and All Alone:
Electronic Hate Music for the Year 2000 (and Beyond)" (Ohm
010), a lo-fi paranoia-
inducing collection of insulting avante-garage/electonica/pop.
The
Thing:
"Hymns for the Insane" is, in many ways, a consummation
of all previous
efforts by these musicians. While trying to gather musicians for
that elusive "ultimate
rock band" that never materialized, John and Mike sat before
computers, composing,
arranging, rearranging, drinking, recording, stealing other people's
work, drinking,
cutting, pasting, singing, drinking, and on and on. The result,
a tortured LSD fever-
dream. Electric grooves, funky breakbeats, pop melodies, spoken
words, and cheese
were joyously mashed together into a big ball and glued together
with gobs of cynicism.
Conceived and written on a froth of beer suds, the lyrical content
is a journey through the
world of the perverse losers and demented winners, the wretched
outcasts and sinister
loved-ones. Mike and John are your guides through this fairy-tale
land of defrocked
priests, whining adolescents, violent cops, penis-obsessed rednecks,
and on and on. Here
you will find everything you never wanted to know about yourself
and everyone else and
are still afraid to ask served up piping hot with no apologies.
"In 1964,." the story
begins, but not really. Another imaginary episode in Cleveland's
already sordid history.
Some call it poetry; some call it bull-shit. Welcome to our world.
Tools
we have loved:
Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, Rebirth, Roland VS-880EX, and all those
boring acoustic and analog instruments.
The
Take-Home Message:
The unofficial motto of this very unofficial band - "If you
laughed once, it was worth it."
The
Plug: I
accept them and I, one day will be them.
